OPK change name to Bexley Borough

Tuesday 28th July 2009
THE EXECUTIVE Committee of ambitious Vandanel Kent County Football League Division 2 West side OPK Football Club wish to announce they have received agreement in principal from the London Football Association to change their name to Bexley Borough Football Club for the 2009/10 season onwards, writes Stephen McCartney.

The team will be playing their home league games at Crook Log, Welling, and chairman Simon Kidby explained his reasons behind the more suitable name change.

“It has become apparent over recent weeks that some members of the original OPK FC have had a change of heart with regard to the agreed direction of the club,” he told www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning.

“I wish to thank Liam Kelly, our club secretary, for all his hard work in brokering a satisfactory resolution for all parties and of course extend my thanks to the London FA for their prompt action in agreeing to our request in principal and also the Kent County and Bromley and District Football Leagues for their understanding and similar agreements in principal.”

Meanwhile, a new club will be formed in remembrance of Owen Patrick Kelly and will participate in the Bromley and District Premier League from the 2009/10 season.

Bexley Borough continue their pre-season preparations with a home game against Sevenoaks Town tomorrow evening at 7pm.

They then welcome Thamesmead Town’s reserve side at the same venue on Saturday, 1st August (1pm).

Both friendly matches will be held at the Bexley Business Academy, Yarnton Way, Erith, Kent DA18 4DW, although they will move in at their new ground in time of their Kent County League campaign.
