Our away form just takes care of itself, says Cray Wanderers boss Ian Jenkins

CRAY WANDERERS boss Ian Jenkins says he is expecting a tough game at Canvey Island tomorrow.



Jenkins, 45, said he was pleased with a point against Lowestoft Town at a bitterly cold Hayes Lane on Wednesday night.

The Suffolk side thought they had secured the win after substitute Dale Crockrill converted a 79^th minute penalty after keeper Andy Walker had brought down the impressive Chris Henderson.

But The Wands grabbed a point just 85 seconds later when defender Joe Vines stuck out his leg to divert his brother Paul’s shot across visiting keeper Andrew Plummer and into the far corner following Jack Clark’s corner.

The Wands remain in ninth-place in the Ryman Premier League table following their midweek draw and travel to tenth-placed Canvey Island tomorrow, one point ahead of the Essex side and unbeaten on their travels in the league.

“It’s always tough over there,” said Jenkins.

“We’ve gone there before and the keeper’s got injured in the warm-up and we had to put Aaron Day in goal and only lost 3-1.  We’ve gone there and drawn.

“Our away form, I don’t want to tempt fate, but our away form just takes care of itself.

“The boys like to travel and we like a bit of banter in the dressing room afterwards so it’s one of those games where if I keep the same team or make a couple of changes it makes no difference. We should perform on the day and get the result.”

Cray Wanderers welcome Wingate & Finchley to Hayes Lane next Tuesday.
