Our girls don't want to give the cup up, says Charlton Athletic boss Stuart Weston
Stuart Weston’s side were due to welcome FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division leaders Sheffield to Bayliss Avenue in The FA Women’s Cup this afternoon, but like hundreds of others the game was postponed following a pitch inspection yesterday morning.
However, Charlton Athletic and their north London counterparts have agreed to play each other on the adjacent 3G pitch, kicking off at 5:45pm.
Charlton Athletic are sitting in seventh-place in The FA Women’s Premier League South table with a record of three wins, three draws and three defeats.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, lie in the bottom three (ninth-place) with a record of three wins, three draws and three defeats.
Both sides enjoyed comfortable away victories to reach this stage of the competition, with Charlton Athletic thrashing Old Actionians 6-0, with Spurs beating Denham United 5-0.
The other semi-final is between Queens Park Rangers and KIKK United, who are based at the Mile End Stadium in east London.
Weston, who was speaking to www.cafcwomen.co.uk acknowledged it will be far from an easy game but hopes his side can rise to the occasion and book a place in the final.
“We drew 2-2 at their place in the league earlier this season so I’m not expecting them to come here and us to have an easy time of it,” said the Addicks manager.
“It’s going to be a hard game but we are the current London Cup holders and our girls don’t want to give that cup up.”
Charlton Athletic played a behind-closed-doors friendly against local rivals Millwall and held the Super League 2 side to a 1-1 draw, with their goal coming from Jenny Newman.
Weston said: “I went home feeling extremely proud of the performance of the girls and I just hope that continues now for the second half of the season and we can show people what we really are about.”
