Parkinson looks forward to Vickers clash

WELLING UNITED boss Andy Ford says he will continue to look at his trialists’ at VCD Athletic next Tuesday night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Wings boss took plenty of positives from his side’s impressive 1-1 draw against Coca-Cola League One neighbours Charlton Athletic a couple of night’s ago.

And he takes his side to Oakwood next week to face Paul Foley’s side that are preparing for their inaugural Ryman League Division One North campaign, following promotion from the Bulmers Cider Kent League three months ago.

“We did have two games on the same night,” Ford told www.kentishfootball.co.uk . “We were going to go to Sittingbourne on the same night and they just pulled out unfortunately.

“I need to have a look at the trialists’, I need to get the first team gelled together and fit.

“It’s mucked my plans up a little bit, but I’m not quite sure yet (who I will play at VCD).”

One Welling player who is looking to playing at Oakwood is defender Jack Parkinson.

The nineteen-year-old still coaches youngsters at the Crayford club and played for Vickers before he moved to Park View Road last summer.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Parkinson told www.kentishfootball.co.uk .  “I spoke to Foes (Paul Foley) a little while back and I still do a lot of coaching down there as well, so it should be good.

“The pitch and the ground is looking fantastic at the minute, they’re working really hard on it and I’m looking forward to going down there myself.”

Meanwhile, the Wings snapped up left-winger Ben Greenhaugh, 17, on a one-year-contract after the Charlton Athletic game, having impressed Ford with his attacking play.

VCD Athletic, meanwhile, have completed the first week of their pre-season training schedule, the entire first team squad that completed last year’s memorable double winning campaign has returned to the club ahead of their Ryman League campaign.

“The only absentees so far have been due to a summer holiday (Casey Scotter) and a honeymoon (Richard Sinden) but every other player has been working their way back to fitness, including  Lee Maskell, who had a groin operation at the end of the 2008-09 season.” said Vickers boss Paul Foley, when speaking to www.vcd-athletic.co.uk.

“There are a handful of new faces too, including Chris Tedder (Chatham Town), James Taylor (Dartford), Mark Hammond (Whyteleafe) and Charlie Burgess (Tonbridge Angels), who were all asked to come down and these are expected to be signed up soon.”

Next week’s friendly fixtures with the Wings and Tonbridge Angels (18th July) should see the new faces in Vickers colours.
