Peckham Town host Somaliland: Without people trying to help and support clubs at this level, you don’t stand having a chance of moving on, says manager Alan Jacobs

PECKHAM TOWN manager Alan Jacobs says he is looking forward to today’s International Charity game against Somaliland FA.

The Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League Premier Division club will make the return home to their ground after playing across the road at Pynners Close for their league and cup games this season.

Entry will be by donation and all proceeds raised on the day will be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), East Africa Crisis Appeal and Somaliland Lifemakers.

Somaliland Lifemakers is a youth organisation that was established to encourage and urge young people to volunteer and participate in humanitarian projects in the country.

The DEC is a group of 13 leading UK aid charities that work together to raise money to help those impacted by disaster across east Africa, making sure that funds reach those that need them the most.

“We’re really looking forward to that game, it’s for charity,” said Jacobs.

“They were down to play Dulwich Hamlet for that game but Dulwich couldn't fulfil it because they had a Play-Off Final last Monday.

“Duncan Hart, from Dulwich, has suggested to them to come and play us because he likes to go and watch Peckham Town with the Menace ultras and we’re really glad to have his support.  They’ll be coming over to play us at the Menace Arena.”

Peckham Town chairman Bryan Hall added: “It’s an honour to host international football at the Menace Arena. I hope that many in the local community, fans of other clubs and Somalis from near and far turn out to support both teams. I am confident we can raise a good sum of funds that will help saves lives in this really difficult time for Somalis and other countries in east Africa.”

Peckham Town are grateful to an owner of a local restaurant chain for his financial support of the club.

Jacobs said: “We have a gentleman coming in who’s helping us out a little bit.  Mike Smith, who runs a McDonalds and he’s willing to help us support this club at grassroots level with a little bit of work and money and everything that he’s putting into the ground.

“I’d like to put on record that really, really is top drawer.  I’d like to say thanks for that, not only from me but all the players because without people trying to help and support clubs at this level, you don’t stand having a chance of moving on. You’ve got to have some backing from people who trust you and want to be behind you and he is and we give a lot of thanks for that.”
