Peckham Town FC would like to go on record to say a massive thank you to the non-league family for their support and best wishes for Alli Abdullahi and his family

PECKHAM TOWN would like to thank the non-league family for their support after one of their players was attacked on the pitch last weekend.

The club’s home game against Stansfeld Oxford & Bermondsey Club was abandoned after 27 minutes when an unnamed visiting player attacked Peckham Town midfielder Alli Abdullahi, 25.

A well-wisher who supports Ryman Premier League club Dulwich Hamlet and Peckham Town has set up a fundraising page for people to donate money to the former Bishop’s Storford footballer, who came through Gavin Rose’s highly-rated ASPIRE Academy six years’ ago.

“There is absolutely no place for this in society, let alone football,” said Duncan Hart, who set up the fundraising page.

“Alli has a broken jaw, eye socket and neck damage (not broken as feared). He had an operation at Kings on Tuesday and hopes to return home later this week.

“He has a young family and only just started self-employment so this incident will hit him financially, as well as physically and emotionally.

“Dulwich Hamlet Supporters Trust prides itself in supporting our local community. We are keen to play our part by supporting a neighbouring team and player at this difficult time.”

A statement from Vanarama National League South club Bishop’s Stortford will, like Dulwich Hamlet, have bucket collections to aid their former player.

The Hertfordshire club said: “Alli had several spells with the Blues and I’m sure everyone at the club wishes him all the best as he recovers from his injuries.”

Both Kent County League clubs were contacted this afternoon about last weekend’s horrific incident.

“The Peckham Town vs Stansfeld match in the Kent County Football League Premier Division was abandoned on Saturday after 27 minutes into the game following an incident which saw a visiting player punch a Peckham Town player who subsequently collapsed twice before being taken to hospital with serious head and neck injuries.

“Peckham Town FC would like to go on record to say a massive thank you to the non-league family for their support and best wishes for Alli and his family.”

Stansfeld added: “Once we received the referee’s report we will be making a statement. Until then there will be no more from us, hopefully the report will be with us soon.”
