We tend to play our best against top sides, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon
PHOENIX SPORTS boss Paul Bryon says his side will be fighting for every point as they bid to grab a play-off place in the Bostik South.
Phoenix Sports’ hopes were dented when they went down to a 3-2 defeat at Faversham Town last Saturday, keeping them in seventh-place in the table with 50 points in the bag.
They are seven points adrift of Corinthian-Casuals, who occupy the final play-off berth and Phoenix Sports host third-placed Carshalton Athletic tomorrow.
“The Faversham game was disappointing mainly due to the fact we conceded three goals that were all avoidable and our concentration has been so good recently,” said Bryon.
“I actually thought that we played well apart from switching off three times.
"We also lost a couple of players to hamstrings and I have a couple unavailable tomorrow, so will tap in to our reserves to bolster the squad this week, which is not ideal as we have Carshalton at home who are on a very good run at the moment.
“However, we went to their place and got a point and I remember we were in exactly the same situation had a reserve playing up top, a loanee out wide due to injuries and suspensions so Saturday we will be relishing the challenge.
“We tend to play our best against top sides and we are looking forward to it. They are very good going forward and it will be a god test for us defensively.
“Discipline will be the key for us but I believe we can get something from the game and so do the players and that’s a good place to start.
“We’re at the business end of the season now and every point counts and we will be fighting for every point.”
Midfielder Jack Hopkins scored a brace at Salters Lane last weekend, taking up his goalscoring tally to eight for the season.
“I would Just like to give a quick mention to Jack Hopkins. He has a very good week got a brace on Saturday and had his first child on Wednesday so congratulations to Jack and Kelly,” added Bryon.
