Relegated side Phoenix Sports sign Ryan Hayes and Dave Martin on two-year contracts
PHOENIX SPORTS manager Steve O’Boyle has made some eye catching signings after suffering relegation from the Isthmian League after a seven year stay.
The Barnehurst based club finished second from bottom in the South East Division, picking up 33 points from their 38 games and return to the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division alongside fellow relegated outfit Whitstable Town.
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips has departed the club after making 270 appearances during his eight-year stay at the Mayplace ground.
Striker Alfie Evans, meanwhile, has signed a contract to remain at the club next season.
Midfielder, Dave Martin, 36, who helped Hastings United win the Isthmian League South East Division title last season, has signed a two-year-contract, as has former Chatham Town winger Ryan Hayes, 36.
Chatham Town finished runners-up in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, collecting 100 points from their 38 games, losing out on the title to Sheppey United, who banked 102 points.
“Dave is a massive signing for this football club, an ex-professional who has played over 200 games in the Football League at clubs such as Millwall and Crystal Palace,” said O’Boyle.
“This signing shows real ambition for what Phoenix Sports want to achieve next season.
“Ryan is a fantastic player with lots of experience in this division and much higher. He has committed to play for the club for the next two seasons. He is a quality signing and will be a great asset to Phoenix.”
