We will not hide from our task and we know we need to get points on the board as soon as possible to avoid losing becoming a habit, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon
PHOENIX SPORTS manager Paul Bryon admits his side have not had the start that he wanted.
The club are second-from-bottom in the Isthmian League South East Division, having suffered defeats to Ashford United (1-2); Herne Bay (1-3); Staines Town (0-6 in The FA Cup Preliminary Round) and went down to a 2-1 home defeat to their next-door neighbours VCD Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.
Phoenix Sports look to get their first points on the board when Guernsey visit the Mayplace Stadium tomorrow (14:00).
“Obviously, we have not had the start to the season that we wanted but feel we have been unlucky in two of the three league games we have played,” said Bryon.
“I believed we deserved something against Ashford with chances created and there was nothing between the two teams on Bank Holiday Monday against VCD, the game lacked quality from both sides but understandable when we have had four games in nine days, which is a crazy schedule at the beginning of the season!
“We know the league has got stronger this year and understood that, and the money flying around is now becoming quite concerning. Players are dropping levels to pick up the money and therefore the league is getting stronger.
“We will not hide from our task and we know we need to get points on the board as soon as possible to avoid losing becoming a habit.
“I believe in the squad and believe strongly they are playing at the correct level. We will know a lot more 10 games in hopefully by then we can be higher in the league.”
Guernsey are a couple of places higher with two points from three games and suffered a 4-1 defeat at Whyteleafe on Monday afternoon.
“It’s always a good game between our two sides and they usually bring a few goals. We are looking to kick the season off and come away with all three points,” said Bryon.
“This will be our fifth game 14 days and after Tuesday it will be six in 16 days. It’s crazy because next week we have a week off, so it does not help teams with small squads.”
