Photographic evidence of Sutton manager Doswell lashing out on Angels skipper Storey

Saturday 21st February 2009
THE UGLY side of football reared its head at Longmead Stadium this afternoon as Sutton United manager Paul Doswell was sent from the dug out ten minutes before half-time during his side’s 3-1 win over Tonbridge Angels, writes Mike Green.

The picture above taken by David Couldridge from www.tonbridgeafc.co.uk clearly shows the Sutton manager lashing out at Angels skipper Anthony Storey during a break in play.

The disgraceful scenes occurred after 34 minutes of this Ryman Premier League clash and followed former Ebbsfleet United favourite Chukki Eribenne’s booking for a crude challenge on Angels central defender Leon Legge.

A “discussion” developed in front of the Angels dug-out, whilst Legge was receiving treatment and it was during these scenes that Storey was flattered.

The picture shows Sutton United’s assistant manager Steve West clearly trying to pull Doswell away from the incident, with Angels boss Tommy Warrilow looking on totally perplexed.

Full credit must be given to match official Paul Harris of Maidstone who handled the potentially explosive situation superbly and pulled the Sutton boss away from the melee of players before banishing him to the Longmead dressing rooms.

When asked after the game to comment on his opposite number’s antics, Warrilow, EXCLUSIVELY speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk diplomatically said, “I just can’t believe what I saw, things like that don’t belong in our game.”

Inside the Angels boss must have been seething, however, especially given some of his previous comments concerning the Football Association’s respect campaign.

Whilst www.kentishfootball.co.uk cannot condone the actions of this individual, there is clearly no place for such goings on in the game that we love and you have to question on a day when Sutton United put themselves in the middle of the play-off chase what damage to the name of this fine club their manager’s antics could be responsible for.
