Play all Kent Cup Finals at Princes Park, pleads Whitstable chairman - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS
Proud Whitstable Town chairman Mr Tony Rouse, celebrating his 60th Birthday today, has joined www.kentishfootball.co.uk 's appeal for Kent County Football Association officials to play the Kent Senior Cup Final at Dartford’s stunning Princes Park Stadium, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Oysterboys clinched the first part of a possible treble today, beating a very good Bearsted side to land the Kent Senior Trophy.
And Mr Rouse was impressed when he was given a guided tour of the £6.5m Stadium by Dartford’s co-chairman Mr Bill Archer before seeing Marlon Button score a 67th minute screamer fly into the top far corner as Whitstable Town brought the Kent Senior Trophy back to The Belmont for the first time in six-years.
The crowd of at least 800 fans were entertained and the 30-year-old match-winner scored a goal that would grace any stadium.
Tonbridge Angels will know who they will meet in the Kent Senior Cup Final tomorrow night when Ashford Town welcome Bromley to The Homelands in the other semi-final.
Ashford Town maintained their Ryman League status yesterday and face a Bromley side with more important matters on their minds.
As of yet, KCFA officials have yet decided on a venue - or a date - for the Kent Senior Cup Final.
The final is normally played at one of the finalists’ ground - but Tonbridge Angels officials want the final played at Princes Park.
But after his first ever visit to Princes Park today, Mr Rouse believes all Kent Cup finals should be staged in Dartford.
“I was very touched today,” the Whitstable chairman said EXCLUSIVLEY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“Bill, the chairman, took me on a guided tour, took twenty minutes out of his day to take me round and tell me all about this wonderful Stadium.
“I was delighted that he took the time and he’s invited me back again as his guest, which I’m thrilled about, and I do intend to come back.
“I’ve got to pay compliments to Dartford today, they were absolutely fantastic hosts.
“If anybody in Kent wants to hold a final, it couldn’t be in a better place than Dartford Football Club - they’ve been absolutely superb.”
When asked if the Kent Senior Cup Final should be staged at Princes Park, Mr Rouse replied: “Without a doubt! It’s central to everybody, everybody can get here.
“I think if Dartford are happy to do so, they are geared up for it, they’ve got the facilities, they’ve got the officials, they’ve certainly for the building - it was absolutely wonderful.”
And the magic of Princes Park, left it’s mark on today’s match-winner, former Herne Bay winger, Marlon Button.
Princes Park was built for such stunning goals to be scored and Button enjoyed his golden moment.
“It’s a great Stadium (with) beautiful surroundings,” he said EXCLUSIVLEY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk “One of the best I’ve seen for a long time.”
