Powell makes Conference history

Friday 06th February 2009

TROUBLED club Fisher Athletic will make Conference history for the visit of Eastleigh this month, writes Stephen McCartney.

Donna Powell, the club’s turnstile operator, has raised £500 for the Champion Hill based club, thus winning the chance to be manager for the Blue Square South match at Champion Hill on Wednesday, 18th February.

Powell will now effectively become the first female manager in Conference history, taking over from Dave Mehmet for the game.

“This is much needed light relief considering all the problems we continue to face on and off the field, said chairman Martin Eede.

“It’s a bit of fun and we hope our supporters will come out in force and back Donna as we try and turn our fortunes around.”

Meanwhile, tomorrow’s Blue Square South clash against Bath City, has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain and sleet fell in south London this morning effectively ending already faint hopes that the game could somehow be played.

Mr Eede, speaking to www.fisherathletic.co.uk added, “Three quarters of the pitch is under water and the remaining areas are still under six inches of snow. I think it’s the right decision!
