My aim again is to consolidate in this league and hope to perform better than we did last season, says Punjab United manager Jugjit Sian
PUNJAB UNITED manager Jugjit Sian says his players’ performance levels have to be at their highest in every game.
The Gravesend-based outfit struggled during their debut Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division campaign finishing in the bottom four.
Sian’s side kick-off their new campaign with a tough trip to Beckenham Town, whom finished in the top five last season and completed their pre-season campaign by humiliating First Division side Meridian VP 7-0 on Tuesday night.
“I’m looking forward to this season because we have had a good pre-season and had some good wins,” said Sian, who goes by the name of Chipie.
“But I know this will be a tough league this season because the teams have all recruited well and managers have moved to different club’s and taking their players’ with them so it’s going to be competitive every week.
“My aim again is to consolidate in this league and hope to perform better than we did last season.
“I know the performance levels have to be at its highest every game.
“Personally, I haven’t had a day off since the season finished. I had ground works to get done with new changing rooms and new club house built so it’s been manic, plus the coverage of the BBC programme has given us great exposure and more people are interested in helping the club, which has been fantastic.
“I’ve been great to get Neil Hunter in as assistant manager and Jindi Banwait will become first team coach.”
Looking ahead to their trip to Eden Park Avenue, Sian said: “We have got to start well and that’s the plan. Beckenham have recruited well and we will have to be at the races to get anything out of them but I’m confident that my players’ will perform and hope we can come away with something.”
