I’m going with the boys who have got me here. I owe them the chance to play in this division, says Punjab United boss Jugjit Sian
PUNJAB UNITED manager Jugjit Sian says he is going to keep faith with his title winning squad as they prepare for life in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.
The Gravesend based club clinched the First Division title and sealed promotion along with K Sports and Fisher.
Sian has revealed his players have been training for a number of weeks as they get primed ahead of their debut campaign in the ninth-tier of English football.
The club kicked-off their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 home win over Phoenix Sports last night and they host Bostik South East Division side Ramsgate on Saturday.
“Really looking forward to Saturday’s game with Ramsgate. It’s going to be a good game,” said Sian, who has sealed back-to-back promotions.
“I was pleased with the game midweek against Phoenix. We moved the ball really well and scored some nice goals.
“I brought the boys back in the first week of June so we get the boys fitter and work on our game plan for the up and coming season. The boys have been excellent throughout pre-season training.”
Sian revealed he hasn’t made any summer signings but central defender Paul Lorraine, 34, is staying at the club.
“I haven’t signed any one net yet as I’m going with the boys who have got me here. I owe them the chance to play in this division,” he said.
“I’m pleased to have re-signed Paul Lorraine, who has been unbelievable since he signed for us last season. His experience and hunger to win has really helped the boys to step up to another level.
“We have the players to cope with this level and I’m really looking forward to playing in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier.”
The Ramsgate game will kick-off at 11 o’clock in the morning to avoid the World Cup Quarter-Final clash between England and Sweden in Russia.
