Punjab United apply for SCEFL1 promotion: The FA have got a meeting, we’re just hoping the application gets processed, says manager Jugit Sian

PUNJAB UNITED manager Jugit Sian says the club are ready to host Southern Counties East Football League First Division football next season.

The Gravesend based club were elected into the Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League in the Premier Division last summer, instead of starting in the Third Division - and they need to beat next door neighbours Greenways next Saturday to claim the league title.

The club have already walked away with the Kent Reliance Intermediate Shield after beating Borden Village 5-3 at Sheppey United’s Holm Park on 1 April.

They can complete a cup double on Tuesday night should they beat second-placed Greenways in the NRG Gym Bill Manklow Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Final at Chatham Town’s Maidstone Road ground on Tuesday night (7:30pm).

“It’s going to be a good one for Gravesend, a Gravesend final making Gravesend proud,” said Sian, following their 1-0 win at third-placed Peckham Town yesterday.

“We get on really well with Greenways. I’m a sponsor with them as well. It's going to be a good one, can’t wait.”

Punjab United and Welling Town, who have a one-year deal to play their home games at Bayliss Avenue next season, after Ryman League Division One North club Thamesmead Town vacated to Dartford, are the only two Kent County League clubs that have made their intentions known of applying for promotion into the Step Six division.

“We have applied, the applications in, just waiting for The FA, that’s it,” said Sian.

“There’s no Saturday football in Gravesend at that level. I know Gravesham Borough are there but they play at Chatham Town now.  There’s no one actually playing at Gravesend.

“We’ve invested well in the club.  We’ve got a great pitch, great facilities, just need a little bit of luck now, god willing.

“It’s all done, apart from floodlights.  Floodlights are there, we’ve got them so we’re ready to go as soon as the season finishes we’ll be able to put the floodlights in.

“The FA have got a meeting, we’re just hoping the application gets processed.”
