Ramsgate joint-boss Danny Ward: I do keep telling people we’re ahead of schedule. I keep telling people this, they’re not quite listening to me because we’ve been in the top five all season
RAMSGATE joint-manager Danny Ward says his side are ahead of schedule as they target the play-offs at the end of the season.
The Rams suffered a 4-0 defeat at Sittingbourne last Monday, although they were only 1-0 down with four minutes to go, Jordan Wells, a 69th minute substitute, scored a hat-trick in 385 second at the end of the game to give Sittingbourne a flattering four-goal victory in front of their largest crowd of the season at Woodstock Park.
Ramsgate go into tomorrow’s home game with Hythe Town sitting in fourth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table on 49 points from 29 games.
League leaders Folkestone Invicta, who went down to a 2-1 defeat at Hythe Town last Sunday, are 14 points clear of Ramsgate.
Hythe Town are in 13th place in the table on 41 points from 27 games after beating Neil Cugley’s side courtesy of Alfie May’s winner five minutes from time in a game that Clive Cook’s side dominated from start to finish.
“We’ve beaten all the best teams in the league so we’ll go (into the game) trying to win,” said Danny Ward.
“They’ve got a great result against Folkestone – we’ve taken four points of Folkestone – so I’ll just tell the lads if we show up and do what we did (at Sittingbourne) and put as much effort as we should put in – you’ll beat Hythe because Hythe are decent.
“We’ve got a few players missing, hopefully a couple back for the net game – but we’ll see.”
Ramsgate have only Saturday games this month, giving the Ward brothers a chance to get on the training ground in midweek.
“What we’ve got to get into our game is consistency,” said Ward.
“The pitches don’t suit us, these physical teams don’t suit us. We’ve just got to do better and we’ve got to score our chances.”
Joe Taylor and Ian Pulman – with 33 goals between them – missed many chances between them at Sittingbourne.
Ward said: “We’ve probably got the best two goalscorers in the league. Chances fell to them and if we scored the goals we win the game comfortably.
“We’re alright. I do keep telling people we’re ahead of schedule. I keep telling people this, they’re not quite listening to me because we’ve been in the top five all season.
“We’ll go into any match and see where it takes us.
“We’ve got no midweeks left which is good. The midweek’s are out of the way now unless the games get called off.
“The big thing I’m looking forward to is we get them back to our pitch, a footballing pitch, which is good. That’s what we need.
“Anybody in this league can beat each other, everybody. The big thing for us is we’ve been beaten by the bottom teams, something stupid, but we need to pick ourselves up.
“I’m not scared of anybody in this league. We just have to score the goals when we’re on top.”
