If we can get our senior players back as soon as possible then there is no reason why we can’t push on towards the play-off places, says Ramsgate joint-boss Danny Ward
RAMSGATE joint-manager Danny Ward says his side face a daunting task when this side travel to Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.
The Rams suffered a 5-2 defeat at struggling Chatham Town on 10 October, but they have bounced back by collecting four points from their last two league games.
Last weekend, the Rams grabbed a 1-1 draw against South Park at Southwood Stadium through Alfie Paxman’s sixth goal of the season, before Aaron Millbank scored the only goal of the game to beat Faversham Town in midweek.
Ramsgate travel to Colston Avenue sitting in fifteenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with five wins, two draws and seven league defeats this season.
Peter Adeniyi has got his Carshalton Athletic side playing an eye-pleasing brand of football this season and the Robbins are in seventh-place in the table, having collected seven wins, two draws and three defeats and are two points adrift of the play-off zone.
“It has been a better week for everyone associated with Ramsgate starting on Saturday, where we left it extremely late, actually the last kick of the ball, to equalise with an exquisite Alfie Paxman free-kick,” said Ward.
“Anyone who was at the match would agree that was the minimum we deserved from the game.”
The Ward brothers have been forced to delve into their youth ranks this season and have added a couple from League One side Gillingham to give them their first taste of non-league football.
“Things haven’t been going totally to plan with the amount of injuries we have had this season, so we decided to bring in two Gillingham Academy players into the squad in Ben Chapman and Bradley Stevenson, who made his debut on Tuesday night against Faversham,” said Ward.
“It was a hard but thoroughly deserved 1-0 victory with an excellent goal by Aaron Millbank.
“We tinkered with the formation at half-time and it worked perfectly.”
Carshalton Athletic play on an artificial pitch and Ward expects a tough task on Saturday.
He said: “We face a daunting task of travelling to another one of the form teams in Carshalton, but we will go there and try to win this game as normal.
“We have a very young squad at the moment with also the Margate players that Paul Robinson, who has been brought over from there to run our under 21s, pushing for first team places.
“Things are looking very bright for the future of our football club and if we can get our senior players back as soon as possible then there is no reason why we can’t push on towards the play-off places.”
