Ramsgate Athletic unveil Mark Buckingham as their new manager
RAMSGATE ATHLETIC have appointed Mark Buckingham as their new manager today.
The artist formerly known as Ashford, changed their name to Ramsgate Athletic after announcing a groundshare deal to play at Southwood Stadium, the home of Isthmian League South East Division side Ramsgate, at the start of this season.
The Steamers parted company with manager Chris Woollcott and his assistant Adam Ebbs a couple of days ago, with the club confirming the pairs departure was “following the recent disappointing results, both home and away.”
Ramsgate Athletic are presently sitting in tenth-place (of 17) in the eleventh-tier Kent County League Premier Division, having picked up three wins, four draws and three defeats.
The club are 14 points adrift of leaders New Romney after being held to back-to-back 3-3 draws by Snodland Town Reserves and Bexley in their last two league outings.
“Ramsgate Athletic is proud to announce the appointment of Mark Buckingham as first team manager with immediate effect,” said a club statement.
“Mark is ably supported by his assistant Jimmy Egan and first team coach George Websper.
“Mark comes to the club with a wealth of experience and knowledge of players within the Thanet area having been Ramsgate under 23 manager last season.
“Jimmy Egan comes very well qualified having previously played at a high level with clubs including Dagenham & Redbridge.
“Mark will progress with the club’s undertaking of striding to develop local Thanet players as well as forcefully pushing for a high position in the Kent County Premier League and beyond for Ramsgate Athletic.”
Buckingham takes charge of the club for the first time on Saturday, when they welcome bottom side Ide Hill, in the Kent County League Premier.
Their Tonbridge based opponents have picked up two wins from their opening 11 games and are in the relegation zone along with Borden Village, Sporting Club Thamesmead Reserves and Metrogas.
