Ramsgate has always been known as a club of winners, says chairman Lawson

LONG-SERVING Ramsgate chairman Richard Lawson says he is bitterly disappointed with how the team performed during the course of the season just ended.
Manager Jim Ward had described the campaign as “transitional” but Mr Lawson, who was speaking to www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk, insisted that finishing in fourteenth place in the Ryman League Division One South tbale with 53 points from 42 games was simply not good enough.
"This was the Club's fifth season in the Ryman League, and although we might have been pleased with finishing 14th in our first year in the Ryman, given the achievements of the club over those first 3 years our subsequent performances have not been good enough,” bemoaned Mr Lawson.
“As Chairman of 22 years standing I feel it necessary to apologise to the fans for the first time because what we provided was simply not good enough."
With forthright honesty he said there were no excuses because the results from both the first and the reserve teams had not reflected the quality of the players at the club.
He said: "The attitude that we are a young squad and therefore not too much could be expected is wrong - I want to win every game, be it first team, reserves , ladies or youth, as Ramsgate has always been known as a club of winners and for that you need a winning mentality from everyone, throughout the club."
Mr Lawson told supporters and players: "I am convinced that the young crop of players we now have with us are as good if not better than the squad that took us to the Premier League play-offs, the highest position the club has ever finished in its history.
“It is up to everyone in the club to look at themselves and ask what they can do to improve their contribution to the club's progress."
The chairman felt that the players and the supporters had been let down but emphasised that this will change, starting straight away. "I have already been busy off the field and am delighted to announce the appointment to the Board of Directors of local business man, Mike Stannard, and a new commercial manager, Paul Pritchard .
“This makes us immeasurably stronger off the pitch and these appointments are just the beginning."
