Ramsgate "shock" at losing four-point deduction appeal

Monday 16th March 2009

RAMSGATE face an uphill struggle to maintain their Ryman Premier League status, having lost their appeal against a four-point deduction at The Football Association earlier today, writes Stephen McCartney.

Jim Ward’s side faced a double whammy, as they were defeated by fellow strugglers Hendon 3-1 at the weekend, and as a result of their deduction have dropped one place below Thanet rivals Margate to second-from-bottom with 31 points from 35 games.

The Rams are now six points adrift of Hastings United, who are one place above the drop zone, and Tony Dolby brings his side to Southwood Stadium on Saturday.

A statement issued by the club tonight on its website www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk said,  “The club’s appeal to the FA against the League’s decision to deduct four points owing to an alleged breach of League Rule 6.8 was heard at Soho Square today.

“Whilst the formal notice, including reasons for the decision, has yet to be received, the club representatives and barrister were shocked when the tribunal decided in favour of the League and dismissed the appeal.”

Saturday’s game against Hastings is billed as an even more important must-win game, as the Rams have only seven games to beat the drop.
