Ramsgate vice-chairman asks: Where was everybody?

Thursday 15th April 2010
RAMSGATE vice-chairman Paul Jefcoate says there is an “apathy” towards the club from local residents, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Southwood Stadium outfit opened its doors for Tuesday night’s game against play-off chasing Godalming Town – and only 202 people turned up.

The Ryman League Division One South game resulted in a goal-less draw – the third successful goal-less draw – and the fifth successive game that the Rams have failed to score in.

Mr Jefcoate told www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk that he was disappointed with the attendance figure – and hopes more turn out for the visit of east Kent rivals Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.

“So we open the gates as a gesture and we get 200!” he bemoaned.

“It was good to see the usual faces that have supported us through thick and thin, thanks for coming!

“I know that weather wise it wasn’t exactly spring like, but the overall support from a town our size is absolutely pitiful.

“I thought it was a pretty decent game, despite no goals and played at a tempo throughout.

“The (Ramsgate) team consisted of over 50% teenagers, who produced some moments of quality as well as desire and with a bit more support will do very well next season.”

Ramsgate remain in 12th place in the table in what has been described as the club as a “transitional” season.

Manager Jim Ward said earlier in the week that he will walk away from the club if he doesn’t guide the club into the top five next season.
