Robbins confirms Croydon departure
Thursday 20th August 2009
MIKE ROBBINS has today parted company of Combined Counties League club Croydon - after only FOUR games in charge, writes Stephen McCartney.
The former Tunbridge Wells manager, who had only taken over the reigns in June, has taken charge of three league games and saw his side dumped out of the FA Cup in the Extra Preliminary Round stage.
The Trams were defeated 4-0 away to Ash United on the opening day of the season; before losing 3-2 at home to Chessington & Hook United; before the club fell at the first hurdle in the FA Cup, as Shoreham came away from the Arena with a 5-2 victory.
Robbins’ final game in charge of the club was the 1-1 draw at Epsom & Ewell a couple of night’s ago, which left the club in fourteenth place (of a 22-team division) in the Combined Counties League table.
“I can confirm that I’m not the manager of Croydon anymore,” a stunned Robbins told www.kentishfootball.co.uk at 10pm tonight.
“We parted company at midday today. I haven’t been given any reasons and that’s pretty well it mate.
“It’s very strange,” he added. “I’m taking a couple weeks out and taking a family holiday and I will be more than likely of getting involved in the Kent scene on my return.”
The club have not confirmed Robbins’ departure on it’s website www.croydon-fc.co.uk - but are invited to issue www.kentishfootball.co.uk with a statement tomorrow.
