Ross Flitney is my number one keeper, says Hessenthaler

DOVER ATHLETIC boss Andy Hessenthaler says he is listening to offers for two transfer listed goalkeepers and a defender who is available for loan, writes Stephen McCartney.
Goalkeeper Ross Flitney, a recent signing (for an undisclosed fee) from Croydon Athletic looks set to maintain the number one jersey, so John Whitehouse joins Lee Hook on the transfer list.
And long-serving defender, Craig Cloke, is available to go out for a one-month loan spell to regain match fitness.
Hessenthaler, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk, following his side’s FA Trophy exit at current Blue Square Premier leaders and holders Stevenage Borough, explained why he is shaking up his squad.
He said: “Clokey hasn’t played has he? He’s played one game in the Kent Senior Cup and he needs games. I think we can’t give him games at the moment so we’ve put him available for loan.
“It’s got to be the right club but he’s getting fitter but he needs to play in games to make him match fit.
“If we can get him fit he could be vital for us for the last month of the season so we’ll wait and see if we get any calls on it.
“If we don’t, he’ll keep working hard for us. We’ll put a few practice matches on for him and see where we go from that.”
Hessenthaler, meanwhile, admits he can’t keep three goalkeepers at the club, so Whitehouse and Hook (who has turned down a move to Ryman Premier League side Margate) have been transfer listed.
“John Whitehouse, difficult decision, John, great keeper,” said the boss.
“I brought in Ross Flitney, so it’s competition for places, but I’ve been honest with the boys. I can’t carry three goalkeeper’s so if there’s a club that comes in and it’s right for both parties then we’ll lose one.
“I see Ross as a number one. He’s six foot three, he kicks it a mile and he’s got the pedigree and he’s only 25, so it’s about the future as well.”
