RUSTHALL joint-manager Andrew McKechnie says he expects his side to put it together and begin their climb up the league table.

The Rustics are struggling in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, having collected just a win and a draw from their first 11 league outings and only pointless Croydon below them in the table.

Rusthall travel to Newhaven in The Buildbase FA Vase First Round tomorrow, a side that are in the top five in the Southern Combination League Premier Division table with a playing record of six wins and a couple of draws from their 10 league outings.

“We are looking forward to tomorrow’s game, it’s a nice distraction from the league,” said McKechnie.

“We tend to play well in the cups so we will go to Newhaven with no pressure and look to win the game.”

Rusthall extended their losing run of four games after coming away from Bearsted with a 4-2 defeat in the league last weekend.

“Bearsted was disappointing in the fact we should have won the game,” said McKechnie.

“If we were three or four up before Bearsted scored I don’t think that would have been unfair. We created many chances and as a team we played well.

“Our position so far this season isn’t unexpected.  We, of course, would have hoped to be higher but we knew it would take time to gel as new side and we are only just getting to the point where the squad is starting to settle down.

“We are up against it as a team and we have learnt some harsh lessons in the first couple of months of the season, we have been really poor in three or four games but Bearsted was a big step forward, once we start putting it together we will start to climb the table.”
