SAVE THE WINGS CAMPAIGN: Friday is ideally the last day for transfers - says Solicitor
Thursday 09th December 2010
www.kentishfootball.co.uk have been in contact with Welling United’s solicitors, concerning the payment of the club’s tax bill.
Leathers Prior, the club’s solicitors, have confirmed that they hold cleared funds of £53,900 (as of close of business on Thursday).
A club statement said: “Dan Chapman tells us that he is awaiting clearance of a small cheque and there are one or two pledges that he is led to believe are definitely on their way to his account, and he is in discussions with two other potential lenders this afternoon and evening.
“He is confident that we are almost there, but we can not be certain of this and clearly need in any event to continue to raise the final funds required.
“By way of reminder, we have to settle (as a minimum) HMRC's petition debt of £59,411.75 and the HMRC's legal costs. Dan has confirmed that these have been agreed with the HRMC as being £800. Were we to collect a surplus, plans are in place as to how they would be best utilised.
“We will give what may prove to be the final update tomorrow, and given that time is now clearly of the essence if there are any other lenders out there, please email Dan on dchapman@leathesprior.co.uk as soon as possible.”
That means a total of £6,311.75 is still needed to keep the Wings in business.
Mr Chapman added later in the evening: “There are some people who say they have done something (or will do something), when they have not!
“Friday, is in reality, the last day for transfers to be made from people’s accounts.”
Welling United must come up with the funds at The High Court on Wednesday - if they don’t then the club will go out of business.
www.kentishfootball.co.uk has backed the club’s campaign to pay it’s tax bill as your editor cares passionately about non-league football in Kent.
And we want the club’s EXCELLENT supporters to travel to Luton on Sunday to enjoy their FA Carlsberg Trophy tie, knowing their heroes will be playing Boreham Wood in Blue Square Bet South six days later.
As I said during the week, Kent’s football fans are the best around. We all enjoy the terrace and fans’ forum banter and the big Kent derbies that are well supported, but we all support our local clubs and it would be a crying shame to lose Welling United.
May I suggest all local media outlets - including BBC Radio Kent - air details of the Wings' plight and broadcast that Friday is a big day for the club in terms of raising the funds.
