Southern Counties East Football League runners-up could miss out on promotion as things stand across the country

The Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division title race took an interesting twist tonight with statistical data confirming that the runners-up could miss out on promotion to the Isthmian League.

Sevenoaks Town lead the table with 47 points from 20  games, while Whitstable Town have climbed up to second-place with 45 points from their 22 league outings.

Beckenham Town (44 points from 22 games) follow in third-place, while Crowborough Athletic are in fourth-pace with 43 points from 22 games.

With a restructure in non-league football taking place next season, the Football Association have ruled that championship clubs in each of the 14 Step Five Leagues will be promoted.

That leaves 12 teams required from the 14 Step Five Leagues.  The 12 best runners-up across this level will also be promoted.

However, the FA will decided which of the runners-up will gain promotion by a points-per-game average.

As things stand across the country, current second-place occupants Whitstable Town look to miss out, should they finish in second-place.

The website said: “The teams in red are the current teams who would be promoted if the season finished today. Those currently in second spot with the lowest Points Per Game across Step Five are Horsham YMCA and Whitstable Town, who would miss out as the FA are only promoting the 12 best second placed teams.

“Also missing out would be teams such as Great Wakering Rovers and Bracknell Town despite them having a higher Points Per Game than some of the second best teams in a different Step Five league, such as Sutton Common Rovers or Charnock Richard. This is because maximum of two teams per division will be promoted.

“It will be interesting how this pans out throughout the season. We will update this periodically at present, and then more regular towards the end of the season so that we can see where things at panning out.”

The Football Association will settle promotion and relegation issues when all of the League's are completed at the end of the season.
