Scott Lindsey returns to Folkestone Invicta

TWO former club coaches are playing a part in Folkestone Invicta’s pre-season build-up as the club’s opening warm-up game takes place at Cheriton Road tomorrow.



That great enthusiast Scott Lindsey  – currently between jobs after leaving relegated Lincoln City at the end of last season – has taken a couple of training sessions.

And Lee Dyson - the man largely responsible for arguably one of the fittest squads Folkestone have ever had several years ago comes to Cheriton Road this weekend as coach to visitors Badshot Lea.

Invicta boss Neil Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk: “Scott’s applied for a couple of full-time football jobs but I was delighted when offered to come down here and it was good to see him again.

“He worked the lads really hard on Tuesday night.”

And well respected Army PTI Lee Dyson was Invicta coach for several seasons before moving away from the area.

He and wife Lisa – also a regular visitor at home games while the couple were in Kent – now live In Aldershot.
He is in his second season as coach at Combined Counties League side Badshot Lea who come from the Godalming area.

Cugley said: “Lee was in touch a little while back and it gives us someone different to play and should prove a useful work-out as our opening pre-season game.”

Lindsey’s contribution was particularly welcome as current coach Roland Edge has still been busy with work commitments at his school.

Edge also misses Saturday’s game but majority of the rest of the squad are likely to be involved.

The only doubt is new signing Luke Blewden.

“We’ve been doing a lot of running work and Luke picked up a bit of a knock because the grounds are still so hard” said the manager.

“We’ll have a look at him on Saturday morning, but we’re not desperate to have him playing at this stage.”

Striker Stuart King and defender/midfielder Matt Hollyoak make their first appearances in Folkestone colours while midfielder Jason Soule, who like Blewden and Hollyoak was with Tonbridge Angels last season, has also been training at the Ryman League Division One South club and looks likely to be included.

“Just about everyone else could be involved – including (Jimmy) Dryden and (Paul Jones) – the players just can’t wait to get started now.”

Folkestone follow up Saturday’s game with a visit to Ryman North One side Chatham Town on Tuesday.

Entry to Invicta's pre-season matches will be £5 for adults, £2 for children/concessions.

Meanwhile, one downbeat note at Invicta is that utility player Roy Guiver was taken ill and is in hospital this week, suffering from suspected pneumonia. Guiver was reportedly training as hard as anyone so this is obviously worrying to all his friends and family, and naturally everyone at the club hopes that he makes a full and swift recovery.
