Scott Porter resigns after disagreement over next seasons playing budget

Porter ended a successful five-year reign at Reachfields Stadium, finishing this season in the top eight of the Ryman League Division One South with 73 points from 46 points, just missing out on the play-offs by six points.

Director and secretary Martin Giles issued a statement on the club’s website at around ten o’clock on Tuesday night.

He said: “Last season, in common with many other clubs we had to reduce our playing budget in mid-season which is something we have never had to do before.

“We had experienced an overall drop in sponsorship and were then hit with the extremely wet weather which affected our cash flow and lead to midweek games and consequent reduced attendances.

“Whilst we hope that things will improve or that we will enjoy good cup runs we cannot rely on that happening and must set a realistic figure that we know we can maintain throughout the season. It is still ahead of many others but it was not something that Scott could accept.”
