Seager hails trio for upturn in form - EXCLUSIVE

WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Marc Seager doesn’t feel any pressure as he guides the club towards Ryman League safety, writes Stephen McCartney.

Three successive home wins has eased their division one south relegation worries, with nine points separating them and the dreaded drop zone.

Although two of those wins came against relegation threatened Corinthian-Casuals and Horsham YMCA, Worthing were despatched at the weekend, pleasing Seager.

“A great win for confidence, a great win psychologically. It’s opened a nine point gap over the bottom two and our third home win on the trot is great,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“I think we’ve done enough to show we’re good enough to stay in the league.

“Only time will tell to see if we’ve done enough but there’s 12 games to go with points to play for.

“We’ve got two good wins over Corinthian-Casuals and Horsham YMCA and those wins have proved massive.”

Seager, like his chairman, highlighted the signings of strikers Ian Pulman and David Cory have helped in their upturn of form.

“We were in a little bit of a rut around Christmas, then we had the home defeat against Walton Casuals (and) a few home truths were said after that game and in training.

“Ian and Dave have been fantastic up front, they work ever so hard. Pulman’s scored six goals in six games, Dave’s got a couple since he’s joined us.

“We’ve started to score goals and we look strong and people are fighting for their shirts.”

Seager has hailed the return of experienced Ryman League campaigner Clint Gooding as “a new signing.”

“Clint Gooding for the last three games has been a new signing,” he said. “I was so excited when I signed him and he got injured in the FA Cup tie at Thamesmead.

“He’s worked every so well on his fitness, sorted out his calf problem and his experience and his style of play has been instrumental over the last three games.

“He’s got over 300 appearances at this level and he’s showing that experience. It was important getting Clint back and a couple of new signings.”

Looking ahead to the club’s first ever League meeting with Burgess Hill Town, Seager expects a tough game against the midtable side, but knows the Sussex side are well in their grasp.

He said: “I don’t look at it as pressure, I don’t feel under pressure, we go into every game to win it.

“Burgess Hill away on a Tuesday night is a very tough fixture. They’re a good established side and they can beat anyone on their day.

“It’s a very tough game and hopefully we can put on the same performance as Saturday and that will build up confidence before we play Dulwich, Cray and Kingstonian.

“We look forward to those games. We’ve fully enjoyed the season. It’s great for the club playing against the likes of Kingstonian, Dulwich and Burgess Hill in league fixtures.”
