Seager praises his players' versatility

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Marc Seager praised his players for their adaptability as they dumped Tonbridge Angels out of the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Young goalkeeper Dylan McVicker was excellent throughout the first round tie against the highflying Ryman Premier League side at the KRBS Belmont ground.

Whitstable broke the deadlock after 67 minutes through Gary Sayer, but the Angels forced extra time when Jamie Cade scored his eighth goal of the season with eight minutes before the end of normal time.

McVicker went on to save Simon Glover’s spot-kick as Seager’s side sealed a 5-4 win on penalties and can now look forward to a quarter-final tie later in the season.

And Seager, speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk was pleased with his players versatility against a side that are in fourth place in the next division up.

He said: “Anyone who knows me will tell you I don’t like to pick out one individual at the exclusion of other’s, it’s the eleven on the pitch plus the substitutes that make it a team game.

“All the lads played well, so they all deserve the credit, but when you get players who are forced to play out of position like we had tonight and then give you 100% that’s what is pleasing as a manager.

“To get a result against a very good side like Tonbridge Angels speaks volumes for the character the lads showed.

“Take Tom Parker; I changed Tom’s position three times during the game, Gary Sayer likewise then Gary goes and scores a great goal from left back when his normal position is right back.

“Mark Munday and Dave Cory; both on their way back from injury should have only played for sixty or seventy minutes but Mark ended up playing one hundred and twenty with the extra time.

“As a manager it’s those sort of performances, and our young keeper Dylan McVicker, which makes my job such a pleasure.”
