It’s my third year in charge next season so I tend to do things in three years so we’re in a good place at the moment, says Sevenoaks Town boss Micky Collins
MICKY COLLINS says he will try his best to land Sevenoaks Town their first Southern Counties East Football League title next season.
The Oaks extended their club record unbeaten run to fourteen games yesterday with a 1-1 draw at runners-up Hollands & Blair yesterday.
Sevenoaks Town lay in fifth-place in the table, having won 15, drawn 10 and lost 10 of their league games and have recorded 55 points.
They complete their campaign with a trip to Erith & Belvedere next Saturday, where Collins won the Kent League double in his third and last season in charge at Park View Road.
Next season will be Collins’ third season in charge at Greatness Park and big things are expected from his side next season.
“We’re looking at it for next season, are we able to go up there and put in a better charge in than we did this year?
“What I’m looking at fingers crossed, I think we probably are,” said manager Collins.
“There’s a few players coming in, we’re organising ourselves already. We’ve got a couple of friendlies sorted out. You know me, I like to plan.
“It’s my third year in charge (next season) so I tend to do things in three years so we’re in a good place at the moment.
“I’m pleased and if we can eradicate poor performances when I was at Sevenoaks initially and the early part of this season we would’ve lost that game against Ashford.
“We never had the spirt or the quality in the side to come back from 2-0 down, 3-1 down to draw 3-3 and we’re a bit better and a bit more solid.”
With big-spenders Greenwich Borough winning the league title and playing in the Ryman League Division One North next season, clubs stand more of a chance to compete for the title next season.
“We’ll try our best,” said Collins, whose son Louis has scored 45 goals in 21 games for Ebbsfleet United’s under 15s this season.
“We will try our best to have a go and we’ll work within our restraints financially.
“I’ve been saying since Christmas, it’s pre-season for us. We’re looking to build. We’re lucky we’ve not lost but I’ve been looking for us to build and I’m pleased with what we’ve got and we’re strengthening in the summer.
“There’s too many sides in it with an awful lot more money than us. If you look at it financially, no but are we a competitive outfit that’s going to go out next year and have a go, yes!”
