Shittu will frighten you, warns Yorath

Monday 08th December 2008

MARGATE boss Terry Yorath believes new signing, Richard Shittu, will scare the living daylights out of defences as they bid for Ryman Premier League survival, writes Steve Wells.

Debutant Shittu came off the substitutes bench, 58 minutes into Saturday’s home 2-2 draw against Carshalton Athletic at Hartsdown Park, and Yorath feels Shittu is the type of player that he’s been searching for.

“He’s got the size, the stature that makes other people frightened of him,” Yorath told www.margate-fc.com.

“I don’t mean that in an unkind way, but when you see somebody that big playing against you - he’s got a bit of mobility as well - then you start to get a little bit frightened.

“He’s the kind of player that we need - we’ve needed all season.”

Despite holding second placed Carshalton Athletic to a 2-2 draw, thus ending a run of three straight defeats, Yorath was disappointed that his side let victory slip from their grasp.

He said: “Unfortunately at the moment we can’t stick 90 minutes together. We’re playing well in first halves, and then playing badly in the second half.

“We took the lead and I think it was a deserved lead; and then for some unknown reason we just fell apart again.

“I was delighted to go in at half time 2-1, because it could have been three or four-one.

“Our defending was woeful, as it was at Dartford on Tuesday night (in the Ryman League Cup), in the second half.

“But we tore into the players at half-time and a few home truths were told and they defended much better in the second half and we played much better.

“We deserved the second goal and in the end I think young Kenny (Pratt) could have won the game for us.”

Margate, who scored through Wayne Wilson and Aaron Quain, are without a game on Saturday, but welcome Harlow Town to Hartsdown Park on 20th December, before playing two big Kent derbies, away to Ramsgate (27th December) and then at home to league leaders Dover Athletic on the third day of the new year.
