Shock as Sussex footballer collapses - and later dies - during match

RINGMER are sorry to announce the death of Herve King, 27, who collapsed in open play seventeen minutes into today’s Sussex County League division one game against Three Bridges.

King was eventually taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton after extensive treatment from Ian Fairs, Ringmer’s Sports therapist and his colleague Tracey Weller from Three Bridges and a number of spectators and players and then the two crews of two ambulances.

Despite the sterling efforts from all concerned King was pronounced dead earlier this evening.

King had just re-signed for Ringmer and today’s game was his third in this, his second spell at the club.

King, a a data analyst, previously played for Croydon Athletic, Redhill, Chipstead and Burgess Hill Town.

A statement issued by the club said: “Herve was a charming and popular figure wherever he played. Players, officials and supporters extend heartfelt sympathies to his family.”
