We will be going for the three wins needed for us to participate in the play-offs, says Hythe Town boss Clive Cook

SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says his side can have a say in which teams will finish in the play-offs this season.

 

The Brickies are in the bottom seven in the Ryman League Division One South table, having collected 49 points from 42 games, but well clear of relegation.

They host fourth-placed Hythe Town tomorrow and sixth-placed Faversham Town on Tuesday night and Davis is relishing the chance of playing a major say in the promotion race to see who’ll join champions Folkestone Invicta in the Ryman Premier League next season.

“Yeah, four games remaining, three Kent derbies, three teams with play-off aspirations,” said Davis.

“Hythe are the form team. Fair play to Clive Cook and the run they have been on has been quite remarkable. I said they have made the play-offs already near enough.

“He has a decent balance of youth and experience and a general goal threat which will be a great test to see how far we have come.

“We are in a decent form in 2016 and if we play like we know we can we can beat anyone in this league, it all depends what Sittingbourne turn up.

“Inconsistency is expected with our young team, four of which are teenagers and this will only put them in good stead in their development and experience going forward.

“Faversham on Tuesday and they are knocking on the door of the play-offs and so we might just have a say in what the final table looks like with the three home games remaining.”

Hythe Town boss Clive Cook insists his side’s push towards the play-offs will go down to the wire.

After their game at Sittingbourne tomorrow, The Cannons host Chipstead next weekend, before a potential winner-takes-all showdown at Faversham Town on the last day of the season.

“The next three games are obviously the most important games in every potential play-off clubs season and this season is quite unique in the Ryman South as it looks like it is going down to the wire with up to eight clubs still involved,” said Cook.

“Like I have been saying, it’s who holds their nerve, who has the correct attitude and mindset and who concentrates the most will be the clubs who will creep in the play-off spots come the end of April.

“Whoever you play will be tough games.  We have Sittingbourne, Chipstead and Faversham and we will be going for the three wins needed for us to participate in the play-offs.

“Home or away in the play-offs, it doesn’t really matter, you are in them, so enjoy them, that’s my opinion.

“Firstly, Sittingbourne away tomorrow and that will not be an easy game. They play their pitch very week, it’s another Kent derby and Nick will have his side up for this game like he always does, so we know what to expect.

“We must be at the top of our game to get the result we need.

“Whatever happens, we as a group have enjoyed ourselves this season. To be where we are is a fantastic achievement in itself so anything else is a bonus and that bonus is three wins and a play-off spot.”
