Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis: I say to my boys you can achieve whatever you want this season - it's entirely up to you!

SITTINGBOURNE player-manager Nick Davis says he is happy with his side’s start to the campaign.

The Brickies have won five games on the bounce for the first time since 1997, after thrashing struggling Whitstable Town 5-0 last night.

Whitstable Town had appointed Simon Halsey as permanent manager after three games in temporary charge after the club parted company with rookie manager Will Graham after six games in charge.

Sittingbourne romped to a 5-0 win at The Belmont last night, courtesy of goals from Harry Smith, Miles Cornwell, Ollie Bankole, Hicham Akhazzan and Tom Brunt, to zoom into the top-five in the Ryman League Division One South table with 15 points from 8 games.

“Out of the 9 games to date, I think the worst we have played is for 45 minutes away to Carshalton and for periods in The FA Cup (away to Seven Acre & Sidcup) but as I said those performances don’t matter to me as much as the victory and prize money is all that matters.

“We have only lost once at home since mid-February in 12 league games and we need to continue our good home form this year if we want to push on.

“In all honesty, I am happy with the start we have had.  We lost our first two which could have gone either way and since then we have bounced back brilliantly winning seven from eight.”

Saturday’s 3-2 home win over Guernsey and last night’s thumping of their Kent rivals has put Sittingbourne in the play-off picture at this early stage of the season.

They travel to play Ryman Premier Leaguers Metropolitan Police on Saturday in The FA Cup First Qualifying Round – with a much-needed £3,000 up for grabs for the winner.

Jim Cooper’s side are in seventeenth-place in the table, having won three, drawn one of their eight league games.

“We are in the next round of both League Cup and FA Cup competitions and have an away trip on the coach to the Met Police to look forward to,” said Davis.

“We must continue to work hard and not rest on our morals and as I say to my boys you can achieve whatever you want this season – it’s entirely up to you, believe in it!”
