Kent Science Park expansion gives Sittingbourne new stadium boost

SITTINGBOURNE have been given a welcomed shot in the arm ahead of the new season with news that The Kent Science Park has announced a 20-year plan for steady growth that includes new facilities for the club.

These plans include a new purpose built stadium with a 3G pitch and the stadium will incorporate the restaurant and hospitality facilities that the Woodstock Club is noted for.

“The idea is at the pre-planning stage but once planning permission has been granted the first stage will be to build the stadium and move Sittingbourne FC and the Woodstock Club facilities into it,” said a statement issued by chairman Maurice Dunk.

“Construction could start as early as 2016 subject to the receipt of planning permission.

“That will be followed by the demolition of the Woodstock club site and 200 homes for professionals who work at the Science Park will be built for rent on the site, followed by 200 homes for sale.

“The Science Park expansion will create 100’s of new jobs at the popular business park.”

The proposals for the redevelopment of the Kent Science Park will be shown to the public at an exhibition to be held at The Woodstock Club, Broadoak Road, Sittingbourne, ME9 8AG on Saturday, 18 July from 10:00 until 14:00.

Sittingbourne chairman Mr Dunk and a director of the Woodstock Club Helen Brown held a meeting with the Ryman League Division One South club’s committee to explain the plans and the committee were unanimous in their support of the scheme, which when complete would see the fifth different ground for the club in 25 years (including a short stay at Whitstable Town).

Mr Dunk added: “The plans are good news for the supporters and would be supporters as the facility will be second to none and will be a stepping stone to achieving a higher level of football that all the hard work of the volunteers at the club and the loyal supporters deserve.”
