Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis: Not a bad start really and just maybe some of the so-called bigger sides might just take note

Friday 18th September 2015

SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says he wants his club to be taken notice off following their FA Cup shock win over Metropolitan Police in midweek.

The Brickies defeated the Ryman Premier League side at the second attempt in midweek and will host Hoddesdon Town in The FA Cup Second Qualifying Round on 26 September.

Davis admits to be facing a struggle as his small squad is stretched to the limits on the back of their FA Cup campaign.

“It’s been a gruelling schedule to date and this will only get worse if we continue to win in the Cup competitions,” said Davis.

As it stands we have had midweek games all the way through from August and our first midweek game without a game will be the first week in December!

“It’s not a bad problem to have and it means we are winning football matches!

Sittingbourne travel to Whyteleafe tomorrow sitting in seventh-place in the Ryman League Division One South table, having collected five wins and three defeats so far in the league this season.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game on the 3G pitch at Church Road, Davis said: “So far they haven’t hit the heights of last year’s form but it’s still early days and with the players at their disposal it’s going to be a really tough ask for us to get anything from.

“I’m missing five for tomorrow through injury, including myself, and so my squad will be stretched to the full and if we are to continue our unbeaten run we are going to have to be at our best.”

Sittingbourne then host unbeaten Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday night and the newly-promoted side sit in second-place in the table going into this weekend’s games.

Davis said: “I’m not surprised with their start at all and they will be right up there come the end of the season, I have no doubt.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the start we have had and the buzz at the club is fantastic.

“We are unbeaten in seven, have earned the club under £5,000 for the club in prize money, are currently in seventh place in the table, three points from second, have another round of The FA Cup to look forward to.

“We were the better side over two games to a decent, established Ryman Premier side (Metropolitan Police). Not a bad start really and just maybe some of the so-called bigger sides might just take note.”
