SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says he is expecting a tough game on Worthing’s artificial pitch at Woodside Road tomorrow.

 

Sittingbourne booked their place in The Alan Turvey Trophy Sponsored by Robert Dyas semi-finals after beating Corinthian-Casuals 2-1 at Woodstock Park on Tuesday night.

The Brickies now travel to league rivals Faversham Town in the last four on the first day of March, as both Kent clubs aim to reach the Isthmian League Cup Final for the first time.

Sittingbourne travel to the south coast sitting in the bottom six on 29 points from as many games and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Worthing, meanwhile, are in second-place in the table and are 14 points adfift of leaders Folkestone Invicta.

“One of the toughest places to travel to Worthing in our league this season but one we are looking forward to especially after the highs of Tuesday’s quarter-final League Cup win over Corinthian-Casuals,” said Davis.

“It will be tough especially on their 3G and my reports tell me it plays a little different to other artificial surfaces.

“That’s fine, we have a young side with an average age of 21 and these lads have grown playing on these surfaces.

“Our plan is to get as many points as possible now in our remaining 18 games and to be in a semi-final still come March is a fantastic achievement.

“To get to the last four of 72 Ryman clubs is an achievement in itself and a mouth-watering semi-final and Kent derby to look forward to.”

Davis has strengthened his squad with the additions of central defender Scott Whibley (Phoenix Sports) and target-man Andy Irvine (Tunbridge Wells).

“On the player front I have signed both Scott Whibley and Andy Irvine, who fit in perfectly into our criteria both on and off the field,” said the Sittingbourne manager.

“Jack Wissen also travels with England Schools for a tournament this weekend and we at Sittingbourne wish him all the best.”
