BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg has been confirmed as the Blue Square Bet South manager of the month for August.
The Hayes Lane outfit finished the month with an unblemished 100% record after some difficult fixtures, which included wins over title-favourites Havant & Waterlooville and Kent rivals Welling United.
The Lilywhites play their seventh game of the season at Maidenhead United tomorrow.
DOVER ATHLETIC boss Martin Hayes says he is keeping everybody at the club with their feet on the ground - despite their unbeaten start to the season.
Ahead of their home clash against eighth-placed Eastleigh tomorrow, Hayes told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: "I'm expecting a tough match against a big, strong experienced team.
"All my players are fit and available, apart from Joe Tabiri, who is suspended."
The Whites are presently in third place in the Blue Square Bet South table with 14 points from 6 games.
Hayes added: "We've had a good start but we must stay consistent and not get too carried away."
Eastleigh, meanwhile, arrive at Perry's Crabble with an identical record both at home and away, having picked up 8 points from their first 6 outings.
EBBSFLEET UNITED have announced the return of winger Ricky Shakes, 25, and he will go straight into the squad for the Blue Square Bet South game against Staines Town at Stonebridge Road tomorrow.
The flying forward/attacking wide midfielder joined the club in the summer of 2008 and stayed for a further season following a MyFC appeal to help fund his and Dean Pooley's contract in 2009-10.
He is only nine appearances short of the magical 100 mark for the Fleet, having started 65 and come on in 26 games in all competitions. He has scored eight goals.
After starting his career at Bolton Wanderers, Shakes went on to appear for Bristol Rovers, Bury, Swindon and Brentford.
He made his international debut for Trinidad & Tobago in the 2-0 win over Iceland in 2006.
WELLING UNITED player-manager Jamie Day says he is still frustrated with the transfer embargo that is still strangling the club.
Ahead of tomorrow’s Blue Square Bet South clash against struggling newly promoted side Boreham Wood at Park View Road, Day told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: “Tomorrow’s game will be a tough one as they are still looking for a win. I think it will be up to us to take the game to them.
“We have a few injury doubts and the embargo is still on-going, which does not help as we have fit players wanting to play.”
DARTFORD will be without full-back Billy Burgess for tomorrow's home game against Weston-super-Mare at Princes Park, after he dislocated his shoulder during the defeat at Chelmsford City last Monday afternoon.
Manager Tony Burman will also be without the suspended Paul Goodacre, following his dismissal at Hampton & Richmond Borough.
MAIDSTONE UNITED boss Peter Nott has unveiled the signing of much-travelled central defender Joe Vines, 29, from Sittingbourne.
Vines, who featured for Bromley, Tonbridge Angels and Farnborough during this pre-season, put pen to paper for Ryman League Division One South side Sittingbourne, although manager Gary Abbott admitted he didn’t know how long he would keep the defender at Bourne Park.
Nott has brought in Vines to help plug his defence, having conceded 9 goals in only 4 games in the Ryman Premier League, which puts the Stones in the bottom three.
“We have been looking to bring in an experienced and robust character into the team and Joe certainly fits the bill,” Nott told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.
“Joe spent the last five years as the influential captain of Tooting & Mitcham and left at the end of last season after a change of management at the club.
“After spending the pre season at Bromley, Joe was allowed to leave due to budget restraints and has recently been playing for Sittingbourne on a game by game arrangement to keep himself fit.
“Joe trained with us last night and is available for selection tomorrow and on Tuesday against Concord Rangers, before serving a 3 match suspension for a sending off whilst playing for Sittingbourne.
AFC Hornchurch visit Homelands Stadium, Ashford tomorrow, and Nott said: “AFC Hornchurch are currently occupying ninth position in the league table after two home wins and two away defeats in their opening games.
“They have been busy during pre season assembling a strong and experienced looking squad which includes prolific striker Martin Tuohy who has scored over 60 Ryman league goals in the last 2 seasons for East Thurrock and Aveley so we are expecting another tough game.”
Speaking about injuries, Nott added: “It was good to see James Peacock return to the heart of our defence last weekend after serving his suspension and he instantly provided us with the physical presence we have been lacking.
“However, the remaining missing players Ashley Ulph, Nick Davis and Mark Cornielle are not progressing as well as we had hoped with their respective injuries and they are now joined on the sidelines by Jermaine Darlington and Simon Petitt, who are both suffering from hamstring injuries.”
MARGATE'S Sports in the Community Programme manager, Aaron Perry, is leaving the club to take up a coaching role with Gillingham Ladies.
Aaron will also be working towards his UEFA A Licence Coaching Award.
A club statement issued on www.margate-fc.com said : "The directors would like to thank Aaron for his efforts in getting the Community Programme off the ground and wish him well for the future."
Margate go into the clash with Kingstonian 14 places and eight points behind their hosts, but on all measures, the Blues are better off than the same time last season.
Nevetheless, manager Iain O'Connell is looking for an improvement at the back while he remains confident that he has the resources in attack to trouble the opposition. Having said that, most of Margate's goals have so far come from midfield and defence. Gate - and particularly recent signing Shaun Welford, will be looking for that to change at Kingsmeadow.
With the probable exception of Sam Groombridge (hamstring), the Blues should have a full squad to choose from, now that Jay Saunders has completed his two match ban. His availability could see Jim Sherman or Wayne Wilson dropping to the bench, although both did well against Maidstone in the Bank Holiday Monday Kent derby.
HASTINGS UNITED have today confirmed that the club has received a seven-day approach letter from rivals Tonbridge Angels, requesting permission to speak to central defender John Beales to bring him back to Longmead Stadium.
Beales joined the east Sussex club during pre-season after helping Dartford to clinch the Ryman Premier League title last season.
A statement published on www.hastingsunitedfc.co.uk said: “The club is delighted to confirm that Beales has advised manager Tony Dolby that he has no wish to speak with Tonbridge, and that he is "happy to stay at Hastings United".
“This is obviously a massive boost for the U's, with Beales having made a highly impressive start to his United career, including a stand-out performance that earned him the sponsor's man of the match award against Cray Wanderers on Bank Holiday Monday.”
Beales spent six seasons in the first team at Longmead, after progressing through the Kent side's junior ranks, but joined United from Dartford, with whom he returned to action after a year out with a cruciate ligament injury.
The statement added: “It was hoped that Beales' defensive partnership with skipper Sean Ray would provide the foundations for a concerted promotion challenge this season, and the pairing has already looked formidable in the first few games of the campaign.”
CHATHAM TOWN boss Paul Foley has taken plenty of positives - despite being dumped out of the FA Cup by Combined Counties League side Chertsey Town last weekend, although they had a man sent off.
“Although we finished up the game losing 2-1, we definitely picked up a moral victory with a spirited display full of heart that left me feeling extremely positive about the season ahead,” Foley told www.chathamtownfc.net.
Foley, who takes his side to Walton Casuals for a Ryman League Division One South fixture tomorrow, added: “I cannot recall taking so much heart from a defeat and although it stung a bit to lose when you have done so well, I know we will be ok for the season with the character we have in the team.
“It already looks like a team which is remarkable when you consider the number of new faces alongside each other working hard for one another.”
FAVERSHAM TOWN lock horns with Metropolitan Police at the Shepherd Neame Stadium tomorrow.
The Lilywhites have got off to a flying start in their first season in the Ryman League and with two wins and a draw from their opening three games, manager Justin Luchford is pleased with progress.
The Police arrive in Kent sitting in fourth place in the table, and Luchford told www.kentishfootball.co.uk that he is expecting a "very, very tough game!"
SITTINGBOURNE, who look forward to a trip to Bognor Regis Town tomorrow, have re-arranged their home local derby with Chatham Town for Saturday, 11 September.
The two sides would have met each other in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round that day, but both sides were beaten by Andover and Chertsey Town, a club that can afford to pay a goalkeeper £175 in the Combined Counties League, according to a Badshot Lea scout that watched the Kent League game between Corinthian and Erith Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Mark Lane says he will be missing a couple of players for tomorrow’s Ryman League Division One South trip to Horsham YMCA.
After the rush back from holiday and the disappointing result against Faversham last Monday, Lane was looking forward to the trip to Sussex.
“They are always a tough side to play against and we will prepare in the right way and be looking for a positive result,” Lane told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.
“We have a couple of players who are doubtful for the trip, they were both suffering after taking knocks on Saturday.
“But on a positive note I have players chomping at the bit to pull on the red shirt and that’s the reason for having the twenty or so players involved this year.
“If we play as I know we can and show the passion and desire to do well for the club I have no doubt that we will have a better season than last, but the players must work and take what we do in training into the game.”
DEAL TOWN look forward to tomorrow - as the Kent League side's favourite competition comes to town.
Deal won The FA Vase in 2000 under Tommy Sampson and on Saturday they play host to Sussex County League One leaders Crawley Down in the competition's First Qualifying Round tie at The Charles Sports Ground.
Deal manager Derek Hares told www.thefa.com: "There is always a buzz around the club at this time of year because of The Vase.
"You always have a feeling that you won't go too far in The FA Cup because of the quality of the teams that come in at the later stages but with The Vase, it's different.
"If you play well enough and get a good draw, then it is something you can progress in. It creates a lot of interest here because we are past winners."
Hares is waiting on the fitness of a number of players but has been buoyed by the return of one of his first choice midfielders.
"I've got Danny Smith back from injury, he hasn't played at all this season due to a hamstring problem. He could come in on the left of midfield and a couple of others are also returning to the squad." added Hares.
FISHER - In conjunction with national `Non-League Day` this weekend - will be offering half price ticket prices to all current season ticket holders of Millwall Football Club.
Adult season ticket holders of Millwall will be admitted for the concessionary rate of just £3 whilst both over 60′s and 16-21 year old season ticket holders can gain entry for £2 and Under 16′s season ticket holders have free entry with an accompanying adult or senior.
With no Millwall game this weekend due to a break in the playing calendar the club would like to extend a warm welcome to our local neighbours and invite their supporters to cheer on the Fish whilst the club make their debut in the FA Vase at home to Ringwood Town on Sunday (3pm kick off).
The club are very grateful to Millwall for accepting the offer of a pre-season friendly back in July which resulted in a bumper gate and a timely financial boost for the club during a difficult time.
In a statement, secretary Joe Arif told www.fisherfc.co.uk : “The club would like to maintain a positive relationship with Millwall and to that end would like to make it known that Millwall supporters young and old are always welcome to come and watch the club on those weekends when Millwall are not playing or perhaps playing away from home.”
The “non-league football day” is the brainchild of James Doe, a lifelong football fan and supporter of Harrow Borough FC.
Its aim is to promote the semi professional game in this country by virtue of a fortuitous break in the football calendar.
Mr Doe said: “With England playing tonight and the Premier League and Championship taking a week off, I urge all fans of the big clubs to get out and watch their local non-league team instead this weekend.
“Given the current financial climate, clubs outside the Football League need all the support they can get, so your presence at a game will be genuinely appreciated.”
Adult: £6 (£3 with Millwall season ticket)
Over 60’s and 16-21’s: £4 (£2 with Millwall season ticket)
Under 16’s: £1 (Free entry with Millwall season ticket)
Please note: To be entitled for the half price offer individuals must provide a 2010-11 Millwall season ticket. Free entry for Under 16 Millwall season ticket holders is for those accompanied by a paying adult. Usual match day ticket prices apply for non-Milwall season ticket holders.
Supporters of other clubs are advised to check with their club websites for more details about their admission prices tomorrow.
GREENWICH BOROUGH boss Steve Firkins wants his side to bounce back from back-to-back defeats when they welcome Newhaven to Oakley Road.
Speaking on the eve of the FA Vase First Qualifying Round tie at Holmesdale's Oakley Road ground in Bromley, Firkins told www.kentishfootball.co.uk that he wants things to improve or he will delve into the transfer market.
"We were all bitterly disappointed going out of the FA Cup two weeks ago, but I'm more determined to make sure we don't slip up again in our game against Newhaven," said Firkins.
"We have absolutely no idea what sort of team they are, but I expect my players to be able to cope no matter what the opposition.
"We have three or four players missing through suspensions and holiday's, but I've got Mike Jones and Kenny Jarrett-Elliott back this week after injuries, which is a massive boost to the team, especially after back to back defeats at home to South Park and Deal Town.
"The Deal game was absolutely dire from our point of view and Deal deserved the three points, but I let the players know that sort of performance was not acceptable and that if they didn't put it right against Holmesdale I would be looking to recruit people that would."
The club hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons following their FA Cup defeat at home to Reigate based side South Park last month, where football violence erupted following the final whistle.
Firkins, who is also the club's secretary, gave and update on the situation saying, "We have just put our version of events forward to the Kent County Football Association after receiving the referee's report this week."
Following their 4-0 win at Horsham YMCA in the next round, South Park visit Hayes Lane to play Cray Wanderers in the first qualifying round on Sunday 12 September - and the Ryman Premier League outfit will be fully prepared.
"We are aware of the problems at a previous game - we did get a report from Kentish Football," said a club spokesman.
"At FA Cup games NO Alcohol can be consumed outside the clubhouse, however, we will have sufficient stewardship."
HYTHE TOWN secretary Martin Giles says the club are hopeful for a crowd of over 300 for the clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Herne Bay at Reachfields Stadium tomorrow.
Herne Bay knocked surprise package Corinthian off the top of the Safety Net Associates Kent League table in midweek, with a home win over unbeaten Deal Town.
But Hythe can knock Simon Halsey’s side off top spot if they win the mouth-watering clash.
“We will be having a photo-shoot at half-time on the pitch, which will mark the start of a process which will when completed see the merger between us and Stars and Stripes FC.
“That club is based at Hythe Cricket Club at The Grove, Hythe and they run a large number of teams from 6 years upwards. As the two clubs are only a few hundred yards apart and many of us know each other already it should be good for all of us.
“We will be aiming to issue passes to all their players and are obviously hoping that their parents will come to this game and others too. With this in mind and our increased attendances the club are expecting anything up to 300 this Saturday.
“We are still experiencing problems with injuries and unavailabilities due to major things like weddings, but our squad is large enough, although it is difficult to put out a settled team.
“We coped last weekend though and we hope to do so again. However to bolster us we have just signed a new player on loan from a Ryman club--those who attend the game will be the first to know who he is.”
Looking forward to the game, Hythe boss Scott Porter told www.hythetownfc.co.uk: "We went to watch Herne Bay on Wednesday evening, in their win against Deal. Stuart King scored a hat-trick and we know we will have to watch him and Byron Walker. We know it will be a tough game but if we play to our strengths then we can be confident."
FORMER Holmesdale strikers Joel Greaves and Joel Hughes are set to face Sevenoaks Town in their FA Vase first qualifying round tie against Guildford City at the Spectrum Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Greaves and Hughes have led a rather nomadic existence since leaving the Bromley based Kent League club.
Hughes followed former boss Tony Beckingham to Lingfield and East Grinstead while Greaves also had a spell with the Sussex club, before moving to Guildford.
Jayden Gibbs, twin brother of Arsenal and England defender Kieran is also expected to face Sevenoaks.
Sevenoaks Town boss Keith Levett has said that he is working on bringing in a goalscorer to add to his squad.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Levett told www.sevenoakstownfc.org: “I know Guildford will be well organised and we will have to be at our best if we want to get a result. If we can take the performance and work rate we showed against Erith & Belvedere into the game we will give ourselves a good chance."
Meanwhile, Sevenoaks Town’s under-18's start their FA Youth Cup campaign at VCD Athletic next Tuesday.
Youngster Charles Dunn, 17, has joined League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers. He was a member of the Welling Academy, and played in Sevenoaks Town's reserve side last season.
Levett said: "It's great for Charles, he is a good footballer, and was only at the Academy for a year, so we can't take too much credit for that.
"He thanked me though for the time he was with us, and sent me a nice text, thanking us and all the Academy staff. I don't know the exact details of the deal, but he had a trial there, and Wycombe have offered him terms which is good.
Meanwhile another Academy youngster Leon Farrell made his Sevenoaks debut in the win at Erith & Belvedere last week.
Farrell also played in the reserves last season, and Levett said: " He is a Year 2 with us, and is progressing nicely. He has probably lacked a little bit of confidence, but we are trying to build that up, and tell him what a good player he is.
"I think he enjoyed it against Erith last week, and is another nice prospect coming through the Academy and is one of the future."
BEARSTED’s recently installed manager Paul McDonagh says he want’s more commitment from his players.
“I am actively looking to strengthen my squad for this season and will be looking at central defenders as a top priority,” he told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“Pre-season has been disappointing as we have had good fixtures arranged, but I found myself trying to get 11 players together instead of developing a good squad.
“Player commitment needs to be improved. In our first 3 games I have had to start with 22 different players.
“I will also be in talks with the club with regards to improving the transition of players between youth and senior teams.”
