WELLING UNITED will be supporting the Danson Festival this weekend in one of South East’s largest annual, free events.

The festival takes place today and tomorrow. It is an excellent opportunity for the club to build it's presence in the community so we urge you to come along.

A club statement issued on the club’s website www.wellingunited.com, said: “We welcome all Welling United fans to come and meet up over at Danson Park this weekend with key attractions for all ages centred as you would expect around football.

“Coming back this year will be the speed test, a fully contained area that will measure the speed of contestant’s shooting at a Speed Gun, with top prizes available!

“The second attraction will be a Square Ball Keepie-Uppie Challenge! Again top prizes will be available and the top three scorers in each age group will battle it out in a Final to take place in the Show Arena! The Wings area is located in the Sports Zone, where all the local sports clubs are positioned.”

Also featured in this area will be a club shop, selling Wings merchandise.”

BROMLEY leant this week that one of their former players, Ernie Cooksey passed away during the week.

Cooksey, 28, was battling against a form of cancer known as Malignant Melanoma.

A brief statement issued by the Hayes Lane club, on their website www.bromleyfc.net, said: “All our thoughts are with his family at this tragic time.”

Meanwhile, both Welling United and Bromley have been draw away in the first round of the Setanta Shield, which will be played week commencing Monday, 8^th September 2008.

Welling United have been drawn away to Thurrock, whilst Bromley have to travel to Bishop’s Stortford.

SAMUEL KOLA OKIKIOLU is one of ten players to have signed non-contract terms with Ryman League Division One North outfit Enfield Town.

The Londoner was released by Folkestone Invicta at the end of last season.
