Someone will take a huge beating from us, warns O'Brien

CHATHAM TOWN boss Alex O’Brien says Michael Scott, 18, has a promising future in professional football following news that Coca-Cola League Two outfit Barnet have offered him a six-week trial, writes Stephen McCartney.

O’Brien, who was speaking to www.chathamtownfc.co.uk says losing Scott will be “another huge loss to us.”

But O’Brien offered some words of advice for the young midfielder, by saying, “Of course, this is great news (for Mike), and I hope this is the start of a long career in football for you.

“But Mike, it’s just the start - football is, as you know being a Chatham player, all about highs and lows.

“It is, with a heavy heart, we let him go, but what a fantastic opportunity, and how can we stand in his way?

“It’s a chance that I’m sure he will grasp.  Well done Scotty!”

Welling United, meanwhile, have recalled Jake Hobbs from his loan spell at Maidstone Road, and Chris Henry’s spell with the club looks to be over too.

“We’re working to try and keep him until the end of the season,” added O’Brien.

O’Brien takes his side to Horsham YMCA on Saturday.  The Gorings Mead outfit are currently tenth in the Ryman League Division One South table and have drawn the most games this season in the division, with 13 draws.

Unbeaten in four games, Horsham YMCA have kept four clean sheets during that time, but O’Brien insists his side will punish one of their rivals soon.

A poor run of form, with three straight defeats, the Medway side have slipped into the bottom-seven, but O’Brien said: “In the case in many of our games players switch off and one mistake costs us.  Players need to concentrate for the whole game.  Successful teams have that.

“We will get there.  I’m sure we are not far off, the players and management are learning all the time.  I’m sure soon some one will take a huge beating from us!”
