EBBSFLEET UNITED have confirmed that manager Steve Brown has signed a new two-year contract today. The Stonebridge Road club have also confirmed that assistant manager Steve Gritt and first-team coach David Jupp have also signed for the same period of time.
The Fleet are in fourth-place in the Skrill (Conference) South league table with 64 points from 36 games and are nine points adrift of leaders Eastleigh.
However, as things stand at the moment, three Kent clubs look to compete in the end of season play-off lottery.
Long-term leaders Bromley are in second place with (70 points from 36 games), who are three points behind the Spitfires, who have a game in hand on Mark Goldberg’s side, but Eastleigh come to Hayes Lane on Tuesday, 8 April.
Sutton United are in third (68 points from 36 games), followed by Ebbsfleet United and Brown’s former club, Dover Athletic are in fifth-place (55 points from 35 games).
Brown can look forward to facing Dover Athletic in the Kent Senior Cup Sponsored by Portablefloodlights.com Final at Gillingham on Bank Holiday Monday, 5 May after Chris Kinnear’s side defeated Bromley 3-2 at Crabble last night.
The two Kent bitter-rivals could still potentially meet in the play-offs.
Ebbsfleet United’s chairman Dr Abdulla Al Humaidi issued a statement on the club’s website www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk: “When KEH acquired the club last June and appointed Steve Brown as first-team manager he had very little time to assemble a squad of players for the 2013/14 season.
“I have been very impressed with Steve and the progress the team has made this season and we are well placed to qualify for the end-of-season play-off competition but we are taking nothing for granted.
“Additionally we have a Kent Senior Cup Final against Dover to look forward to
on 5th May.
“This season has been Steve’s first as a manager and I am sure that the experience he has gained will be put to very good use going forward. Making this step now will allow Steve to plan for next season and beyond.
"I have also been very impressed with the work of Steve Gritt, David Jupp and all the backroom team and there is a very good spirit within the club which is key to success is any football club.
“This is a very important step forward in the future development of Ebbsfleet United FC and I urge all our supporters to give their total support to the management and players as we strive to achieve a successful end to the first season under KEH’s ownership.”
The Fleet now face a run of three away games on the bounce, starting with a trip to Staines Town on Saturday.
The Swans, who were hit by flooding at Wheatsheaf Park during the wettest winter in 250 years, are in ninth-place in the table with 52 points from 35 games.
Marcus Gayle’s side are unbeaten in their last three home games, which have seen them hold Eastleigh to a goal-less draw, before beating Bromley 2-1 and beating Havant & Waterlooville 1-0 last Saturday.
