Steve Firkins brings his Greenwich Borough squad to Fisher - Gary Abbott finds new job

FISHER manager Steve Firkins has, as expected, unveiled a majority of his former Greenwich Borough players, as the club’s new summer signings.Danny Firkins, Frankie Warren, Michael Jones, Peter Afolayan, Billy Walton, Danny Hunt, Kyle Demetrius, George Kendall, Chris Hubbard, Micah Banton, Jamie Turner, Danny Tipple, Kobi DeGraft-Johnson, Richard Monan, and Jamie Taylor have all put pen to paper for the Champion Hill based Kent League club.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s pre-season opener at Barkingside, Firkins told www.fisherfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted to have signed up the nucleus of what I feel will be a strong side.
“I am looking to build a squad of 20 or so players to see us through what will be a long campaign and I will be finalising the squad over the next few weeks.”
Club chairman, Ben Westmancott, revealed that Kris Hollidge has left the club and has signed for Kent League newcomers Cray Valley (Paper Mills).
Hollidge, who has been with the Fish since the club reformed, decided to depart for pastures new after an injury hit campaign last season and he leavs the club with their very best wishes and the utmost respect.
Mr Westmancott said: “A special thank you goes to Kris Hollidge who has been a cornerstone of the club since our reformation in 2009. His leadership role in our exciting inaugural season cannot be underestimated and his part in our excellent London Senior Cup run in 2009/10, which included the dramatic defeat of Cray Wanderers of the Ryman Premier League, will be remembered fondly by fans.
“We completely understand Kris’ desire to seek regular first team football, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he returns with Cray Valley. Our loss is very much their gain.”
Fisher visit Barkingside tomorrow, a game being played at Debden Sports Club, Chigwell Lane, Loughton, Essex, before welcoming Blue Square Bet South newcomers Tonbridge Angels next Wednesday, 20th July, (7:45pm) at Champion Hill.
The club have confirmed admission prices for the Tonbridge game are £5 (adults), £3 (concessions) and FREE for accompanied under 16s.
Meanwhile, Gary Abbott, was unveiled as the new manager of Kent Invicta League side Erith & Dartford Town last night.
The former Fisher Athletic striker parted company with Sittingbourne in the closed season after three years in charge at Bourne Park.
