Stones boss Jay Saunders snaps up Tommy Osborne from Margate

MAIDSTONE UNITED boss Jay Saunders has secured the signature of experienced utility player Tommy Osborne from Margate.

Osborne began his career at Gillingham and then played for Hastings United, which was followed by six years at Dartford before moving to Billericay Town and then briefly Chatham Town and Thamesmead Town.

A spell at Cray Wanderers culminated with him moving to Hartsdown Park to play for Margate, during which time he was a team mate of the Stones player-manager.

“I played with Tommy at Margate and his performances were always impressive,” Saunders told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.

“He is a great player to have as he can play at both right and left back and as the aggressive defensive midfielder too.

“Tommy has won Ryman League titles with Dartford before so he knows exactly what is required at this level.  He will be a great asset to us.”

Meanwhile, Larkfield-based midfielder Sean Johnson, 18, has also committed to The Stones.

Johnson, who made nine league appearances for Maidstone United last season, has successfully made the transition from youth team to reserve team player to first team player over the last fifteen months.

Saunders added, “Sean Johnson is a young player who I believe has an enormous amount of potential.  I think that he will be far more involved with the first team this season and hopefully he will make a strong and positive impression.”
