Stones set to unveil new face ahead of visit to Bromley

Wednesday 18th November 2009
MAIDSTONE UNITED will be have a couple of experienced key-men returning for their FA Carlsberg Trophy tie at Blue Square South side Bromley on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Jermaine Darlington and Roland Edge are both expected to feature in the Hayes Lane clash, something that is pleasing joint-manager Lloyd Hume, when he spoke to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today.

He said of the final qualifying round showdown: “We’ve got to believe that we can go there and win - and I do!

“We’re hoping to have one or two of our senior players back by the weekend, that will come in the squad and possibly into the team and we’re hoping to sign someone before the weekend as well.”

Hume added: “We’re hoping Jermaine Darlington is available for selection and we’re hoping for Roland Edge.  They’re two very experienced players for us and very influential, so they will be big additions to our squad and will certainly help us for a game like Bromley.

“They’re games that you look forward to and you want to enjoy and certainly we are.

“Last night was important to win to get back to winning ways, confidence in the camp will come back now.”

Naturally, Hume was tight-lipped over the identity of his transfer target, to replace Matthew Wright,  a target man, who has returned to Crystal Palace.

Two goals from Lynden Rowland ensured Sutton United were defeated 2-1 at Homelands last night - a result that puts the Stones in seventh place in the Ryman Premier League table.

“It was a tough game to be fair, Sutton are a good side and you can see why they’re doing well,” added Hume.

“It was very much a hard fought win.  It’s well publicised that we’ve got a lot of injuries within our squad at the moment (but) the lads showed a real determined attitude not to get beaten and we went on to go and get the winner.

“It was tough conditions, the pitch was very, very stuck and a bit bobbly in areas, but we expected that.  We came over those problems and we got the three points that we needed.”
