Striker Ade Olorunda has some unfinished business here, says Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow

Sunday 02nd January 2011
TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow says he is pleased to welcome back striker Ade Olorunda - who was one of many players to leave Hastings United last month, writes Stephen McCartney.

The powerful and pacy striker, 28, began his career with Hastings United as a youth and reserve team regular, before departing in search of first team action with St Leonards and Rye & Iden United.

He rejoined Hastings in June 2005 and shrugged off the effects of a nagging ankle injury to score three of the four goals that took the club to promotion via the Ryman League Division One South play-off’s in May 2007.

He spent an injury hit campaign under Warrilow at Longmead Stadium during the 2008-09 season, before returning to Hastings for a third spell in July 2009 and going on to enjoy his most proficient season with 22 goals in 40 games.

The older brother of midfielder Tim, Ade was named joint Supporters’ Club player of the Season in 2007-08 and made 164 appearances for Hastings, scoring 74 goals, before he returned to Longmead Stadium for his second spell.

The striker made 14 appearances, scoring 6 goals, for Hastings, under Tony Dolby, this season, but has opted to leave his home-town club and Warrilow is delighted to welcome him back to the Kent club.

“I am delighted to have managed to re-sign Ade Olorunda, back from Hastings,” Warrilow said in a statement, posted on the club website - www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk.

“I have always wanted to bring him back to the club since he left because we only got a glimpse of his strengths during the injury hit season he had with us.

“When I spoke to Ade, I was delighted to hear he wanted to come back because he feels he has some unfinished business here too.

“It is no secret that I have always been a massive fan of Ade, he is a real handful for defenders, scores goals and has a tremendous work ethic and signing him sends the right message through the league about our intentions.”

Warrilow, who watched Cray Wanderers’ comfortable 2-0 win over freefalling Hastings at Hayes Lane yesterday, added: “The unfortunate part of bringing a player in is somebody has to go the opposite way. I released Claude Seanla as a like for like swap and have nothing but praise for the way he has conducted himself whilst being here.

“I won’t go into too much detail about the reasons but I have helped him find another club that is closer to his home that I think will be better for him and will only help his game.

“I also released Jamie England, who has had such bad luck with injury and illness since being here. I have told Jamie to go and try to get some regular football under his belt and fitness levels up. His situation is
not his fault, sometimes things like this just happen in football and I would not rule out a return to the club for him if he so wishes once he is fully fit.”

The Angels return to action after a five-week lay-off and welcome fourth-from-bottom side Folkestone Invicta to Longmead on Bank Holiday Monday, a game kicking off at 1pm.

“Again, with all the cancellations, trying to get a match of any kind has been impossible,” said Warrilow.

“The lads have trained hard and have shown me they have been looking after themselves, which I fully expected.

“We are all desperate to get some football games played and get the season back on track.

“I hope to see a bumper crowd for our home game against Folkestone.”
