Support from FREE game will give the team a lift, says Whitstable chairman
Thursday 01st April 2010
WHITSTABLE TOWN have opened the gates for their home game against Godalming Town on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Ryman League Division One South relegation battle looks like to go right down to the wire as
Chipstead (32 points), Ashford Town (31), Eastbourne Town (29), Whitstable Town (29) and Walton Casuals (26) battle it out in the final month of the season.
With the Oystermen presently inside the relegation zone, club chairman Joe Brownett has urged fans to flock through the open turnstiles to give Mark Lane’s side the support they need to stun fifth-placed side Godalming Town.
“The club are pleased with the way the supporters have stuck by us this season and feel this is a way of giving something back,” Mr Brownett told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.
“We hope to get a big crowd at the Belmont and they will give the manager and players their support as we near the end of the season.
“With the Bands at the Belmont coming after the season finishes and other events we want the people of Whitstable to get behind their team.
“It will be a tough game for us so it would be great if everyone who normally comes to games brings a couple of friends along; that way we can really give the lads a big lift.
“All are welcome; if you have never been to watch a game before, come and watch Ryman League football for FREE.”
Whitstable are the eleventh best supported club in the division with average gates of 146.
