Table-topping Cugley is pleased with the togetherness within his ranks
Thursday 22nd October 2009
FOLKESTONE INVICTA manager Neil Cugley takes his side to Whyteleafe on Saturday sitting proudly at the top of the league again, writes Stephen McCartney.
Invicta, criticised in some circles for not scoring enough goals, banged in three during their 3-2 victory over Walton Casuals last weekend, and travel to Church Road sitting one point clear of both Fleet Town and Merstham in the Ryman League Division One South table.
“It’s nice to be back on top and as I said to the players afterwards, it’s all credit to them and the work they’ve put in as they’ve been brilliant,” Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk this week.
“Whilst we may not be the best side in the League, we pull together and have a real go.
“When the third goal went in (against Walton Casuals) you saw how much it meant to all the players and there’s a togetherness in the squad and everyone wants to do well for each other.”
Folkestone have scored only 12 goals in ten league games so far this season, although they’ve got a mean defence, having only leaked in five at the other end of the pitch.
“It’s obviously also pleasing that we’ve got a few goals at home as that’s what people want to see,” added Cugley.
Whyteleafe, who have the record of staying in this division for the longest period than all other clubs, welcome Cugley’s men sitting in 13th place in the table, having picked up 12 points from the 30 available.
