Taking things forward at Sevenoaks would have been difficult, admits Chatham bound Keith Levett

KEITH LEVETT says the decision to leave Sevenoaks Town was a difficult one to make.

He is joining Ryman League Division One North side Chatham Town as assistant manager working alongside new boss Kevin Watson.

Watson was appointed last week as successor to Paul Foley, and Levett agreed to be his number two after thinking over the approach for a few days.

The pair did their UEFA A coaching licence together five years ago, and have stayed in touch since

Levett, 42, who lives in Horsmondon, is also also taking over running the Maidstone United Academy which is due to start shortly.

Reflection on his time in charge at Greatness Park, Levett told www.sevenoakstownfc.org: "Having been at the club for a year at getting to know all the people there it wasn't easy to leave, and a difficult decision to make.

"We did do well last season, and I wanted to build on it but the club isn't geared to go up at this moment. I understand the situation, but I felt taking things forward was going to be difficult.

"I still have a great affection for the club, and there is no bad feeling.

Chairman Tony Smart, vice chairman Richard Dalton and club manager Graham Logsdon will now consider the options available as they look for their third manager in three years following the departure of Simon Jones and now Levett, who was appointed last June.

Mr Smart said: "I am a little bit disappointed that Keith has decided to leave. I thought he was going to stay and carry on, but we spoke last Friday and he told me he had been offered another job, and had to decide whether to take it.

“It was hard work financially, but Keith did a great job, taking us to seventh place with a completely new team.

"Unfortunately we missed out on important prize money after disappointing results in both the FA Cup and FA Vase."
