THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Tommy Warrilow says he’s feeling disappointed being sixteenth in the Ryman League Division One North table with six games of their campaign remaining.

The Mead were held to a 2-2 draw at home to local rivals VCD Athletic, which was the first time that former Mead boss Keith McMahon returned to Bayliss Avenue to manage after spending 11 years at the club.

Three of the four strikers were on the scoresheet.  Victor Zapata Caicedo scored both of Vickers’ goals, while Alex Teniola smashed in a half-volley before Paul Vines slotted in his 22^nd goal of the season for the hosts.

When asked whether it feels disappointing that his side are sixteenth in the table with 50 points in the bag, Warrilow said: “It is and it isn’t.  No, listen, I said to the chair I’ve had six goalies this year and things like that and we’ve had a lot of comings and goings and yesterday’s another example of that.

“The unfortunate thing is when we were playing really, really well we weren’t getting the results and that’s what killed us but we’re sixteenth.  I’m sure every manager has got a story to tell but like I said to Paul (Bowden-Brown) we took the club as far as it’s ever been in The FA Cup so there’s a little bit of history there.

“Of course, I’m disappointed but at the same time I’m not too despondent because there’s more things to sort out regarding going forward and hopefully that all calms down and we can concentrate on football.”

Thamesmead Town have three more home games left at Bayliss Avenue, starting with a visit from second-placed Maldon & Tiptree on 25 March, before sharing Princes Park Stadiium eight and a half miles away in Dartford for five-years starting next season.

When asked about preparing for next season, Warrilow replied: “I spoke to a few of the boys but it only got done on Wednesday so I need to sit down with Paul and see where we are budget wise.

“I’ve known what it is so we’ve had to cut our cloth accordingly . Of course, I’m disappointed where we are but also I’m not really because at the start of the season I think we only had four players. I think there’s only two here now that were actually here.

“The whole youth section walked out and everything so we walked into a bit of a minefield really so to get The FA Cup run was a nice distraction.

“We want to try to finish not sixteenth. We want to try to finish as high as we can so at the end of the season we can get a higher finish and then next year once we’ve sorted everything out and the club’s moved on we can go on from there.”

Thamesmead Town are in negotiations with Maidstone United to play an away friendly next Saturday as both clubs have a blank weekend.

Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium was to be Thamesmead’s Plan B if their deal with Dartford was not signed after lengthy negotiations.
